Shem has extensive global experience across the spectrum of international affairs, communications, government relations, stakeholder engagement, regulation mitigation and public affairs. His international experience was gained at the highest levels of government and a large multinational company. He has developed and implemented successful public affairs and engagement strategies within highly regulated environments and across complex bureaucracies.
As Director-General for the recently established Global Institute for Novel Nicotine (GINN), Shem and the team at GINN advocate for members involved in the manufacture, sale and research of non-combustible nicotine products. GINN seeks to promote these products in harm reduction strategies as it engages with policy-makers, regulators, and scientific/medical professionals. GINN also aims to dispel misconceptions around nicotine and to provide the public, especially adult smokers who wish to continue using nicotine, with clear, evidence based and accurate information on nicotine pouches, heated tobacco, and other emerging nicotine products.
